The Jewish Project, December 15

25.00

The Jewish Project is a portrait of a Jew through ice cream and storytelling. Jared Goodman weaves personal stories of being a Jew with Jewish history and culture, exploring themes of identity, secularism vs traditionalism, the writings of Isaac Bashevic Singer and Abraham Joshua Heschel, plus some klezmer music too. Pairing storytelling with handmade and inspired ice cream desserts, he aims to combat the spread of anti-Semitism and educate Oregonians on Judaism and Jewishness.

This performance will take place in NE Portland at the former Woodlawn Methodist Church, in partnership with aCross Culture and Don’t Shoot Portland. The final performance will include a panel discussion afterwards, facilitated by Pastor Jon Umbdenstock, to delve into topics of identity and assimilation for Jews and other marginalized communities. Guests may arrive at 2pm and our show starts promptly at 2:30pm. The $25 ticket includes storytelling, dessert, and tea. The panel discussion is open to anyone. Seating is limited.

*The drawing of Hasidic men is by Jared’s mom, the artist, Jeanne Goodman.
