Support The Children's Book

I'm so excited to share a truly unique event that pairs live performance with inspired desserts, and all for a good cause! Morgan St Theater is co-hosting an entertaining fundraiser that pairs classic Maurice Sendak stories with inspired ice cream treats, and some competitive spirit too!

On Friday May 25th, five Portland residents will participate in the world's only, competitive children's book read aloud. Each participant will read aloud a carefully selected Maurice Sendak book in front of a live audience. Guests vote on the best performance, and that reader wins a prize. This year's books include:

In the Night Kitchen
Where the Wild Things Are
Pierre (A Cautionary Tale)
Outside Over There
Little Bear

Finding inspiration in the story, theme, imagery and sheer nostalgia of each book, I will create a frozen dessert to be served with each performance. Unlike our standard sets, this event will include a 5-course dessert tasting menu!!

It gets better.

$9 from every $39 ticket sold (limited to just 40 people) will be donated to The Children's Book Bank, a fantastic local nonprofit that provides used children's books to low-income youth in Portland. In addition to the fun and outlandishness of combining these incredible M. Sendak stories with ice cream, this amazing organization that works with children will also benefit in some small way.

Location: The Children's Book Bank, 1915 NE 7th
Date & Time: Friday May 25th; arrive 5:30-6:00pm, "showtime" 6:30pm
Price: $39 - limited to 40 people
