The Munchies

On July 1, 2015 the state of Oregon officially legalized the use of marijuana. Morgan St Theater will celebrate this momentous occasion with an appropriately themed dessert pop-up. Your host Jared Goodman, will tell stoner adventure stories from his life. From the tranquill Hudson River to the slopes of Eastern Czech, and the streets of Portland, hilarious stoner tales ensue!

Equal parts thoughtful, delicious and entertaining, Morgan St Theater is excited to host another dessert pop-up this summer! Our ice cream treats are all made from scratch and with love, featuring local and seasonal ingredients.

"Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?"

Before Morgan St Theater I taught high school social studies. This month I tap into my inner-educator to create an interactive dessert performance. Drawing inspiration from the 80's geography game, "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego," each course of this menu will highlight classic flavor profiles found in countries around the world. As guest and participant, you are challenged to identify the country of origin for each course. Those who correctly answer all three will win tickets to Morgan St Theater's 4-year anniversary event this September!

*Since the menu itself is a clue to the answers, no menu description is available.

"Let My People Go!"

The fifth installment of Sundae Cycles: A Jewish Year in Ice Cream continues with the food-focused holiday of Passover. Arguably the Jewish version of Thanksgiving, Passover is rich with oral tradition infused with symbolic food and drink. Morgan St Theater celebrates Passover with its own 'dessert seder ' (a seder is a symbolic meal that retells a story,) inspired by years of attending seders myself. Each course pays tribute to a Passover-related food memory, from matzo brei to matzo ball soup and a a sweet-toothed interpretation of haroset. Morgan St Theater will re-imagine the Passover experience minus all the boring parts. Join us for a fun evening with "Let My People Go!"

Puppetry 101

A couple years back, I rediscovered my love for puppetry while attending a "puppet slam" in SE Portland.  Growing up in the 80's I loved Fraggle RockSesame Street, and The Labyrinth.  Yet, as I aged, I came to associate puppets with children... and boy, was I wrong! It turns out that Portland has a thriving puppetry scene and community. Moreover, there are numerous styles of puppetry, each elevating the craft of storytelling.

Morgan St Theater is thrilled to announce our first-ever puppetry pop-up! This collaboration with Beady Little Eyes will explore different styles and stories, performed by local puppeteers.

Bring your partner, a group of friends or your family, for this will be an entertaining evening made for all to enjoy. Ticket price includes a three course dessert tasting menu (made from scratch,) live puppetry and storytelling, and gratuity.

Edible Art History: A Taste of the 1970's

Morgan St Theater is thrilled to collaborate with the Portland Art Museum for this one-of-a-kind pop-up. Returning to the museum for the third installment in this art-meets-food series, Morgan St Theater co-hosts an evening of art inspired desserts paired with both entertaining and educational stories.

The menu is inspired and built around three paintings from the museum's permanent collection. Think educational art history lectures meets interpretive ice cream sundaes meets storytelling. This is going to be an awesome experience for all attending, especially since the event will take place while the museum is open!

Tickets can be purchased though the Portland Art Museum

Sundae Cycles: Hanukkah

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day holiday commemorating the rededication of a fallen Temple. In collaboration with Mikdash, Morgan St Theater continues its pop-up series - Sundae Cycles - following the Jewish calendar. The second of 6 events, Morgan St Theater will utilize the stories and flavors of Hanukkah in a unique dessert experience.

We will light candles, spin some dreidles and enjoy delicious latkes with ice cream!  The flavors remind us of both the cold, wintry months and the warmth of celebrating a holiday with others. Equal parts thoughtful, delicious and engaging, Morgan St Theater is excited to host another dessert pop-up paired with storytelling and interesting Portlanders!

For those that attend this pop-up, it is encouraged that you bring a menorah from home. Last year the group of 20 lit candles together and the many menorahs glowed by the windows. It was a beautiful experience all around.

Paradise

Paradisethe latest exhibit at the Portland Art Museum, by the artist collaborative Fallen Fruit, "uses the lens of fruit to examine concepts of place, history and issues of representation often addressing questions of public space." Drawing on the museum's permanent collection, these artists explore the theme of 'paradise,' sublime landscape and the greater Northwest. This immersive art installation includes an exhibit within the halls of the museum, but also takes shape in collaborative projects all over the city.

Morgan St Theater is collaborating with the Portland Art Museum to host a dessert event inspired by the high-minded concepts of this Paradise exhibit. Exploring the theme of 'paradise lost,' Morgan St Theater will curate an evening of inspired ice cream desserts paired with works of art from the museum. Stories will be provided by the curators of this exhibit.
